I really didn’t need to do this, as they were still very new, but I felt I wanted a bit more power than those CFL softboxes I shared earlier and decided to do something about that. So, here’s the new photo lighting setup…
Below you are looking at two of the appropriately named Genaray “Twin Sun” LED panels attached to two sturdy metal Avenger roller stands, both of which seem great. Here they are shown at only half power.
I’ve also decided to pretty much stick with the Westcott X-Drop stand for backgrounds. Earlier concerns about some of the solid colored fabric tarps being too thin might not be valid - they really don’t show up as transparent in practice unless backlit, and the stand is very convenient despite being lightweight. They also have some nice canvas patterns and I really like the grommets rather than trying to secure something with clips, so hopefully it all holds up well.
Without further ado, here’s one of the very first pictures with new lights:
Things are not all that different than before, though what’s cool is I handheld this at f/22 and I only needed ISO 6400 (1/320s with IS) when stopped completely down - so … that’s a lot different than before.
The following pictures were all taken handheld with the prior more-basic lighting configuration and came out fine too. These are all shot with the Canon 100mm RF macro still.
I am thankful there is a never-ending supply of things that can be photographed while the outer world is humid and basically uninhabitable. Soon I may share with you some exciting rocks!
